Lincoln Terrace / Arthur S. Somers Park
Memorial Grove for Victims of Traffic Violence
This grove of trees is a living memorial dedicated to the thousands of loved ones killed or injured in traffic crashes in the city, state, and region. Victims of this public safety crisis are connected by loss and common humanity. All are welcome to find solace in this park. The wide variety of tree species reflects the diversity of the people lost or injured in crashes, and of their grieving families. The trees planted in this grove provide a lasting reminder of lost loved ones and create a gathering space for remembrance and reflection.
This memorial grove was created by Families for Safe Streets (FSS) in partnership with NYC Parks. FSS confronts the epidemic of traffic violence by advocating for life-saving legislative changes and providing support to those who have been impacted by. Comprised of people who have been injured or have lost loved ones to traffic violence, FSS was founded in 2014 in New York City and is a growing national movement.
