Model Cars Go For A Spin

Model Cars

Back in April, the Staten Island Borough Headquarters was visited by Ray Batista, who asked about the feasibility of using parkland for the use of model cars.

Our first concern was the noise factor and we asked Mr. Batista to set up a demonstration on the basketball courts at Clove Lakes Park. It turns out that the cars are run on batteries and make no noise at all. Approval was granted!

There is currently an oval at Midland Beach which was created for this purpose many years ago and has been fallow for some time. Mr. Batista and his group, Sirclegion, worked on renovating the oval and made half of it usable for the running of model cars.

This past Saturday, Commissioner Paulo and I went to the beach to join Sirclegion for the inaugural run. Now Staten Islanders can enjoy yet another form of recreation in our parks.
