IT IS KNOWN ALSO AS "CONFERENCE / HOUSE" BECAUSE BENJAMIN FRANKLIN, JOHN / ADAMS AND EDWARD RUTLEDGE MET HERE WITH / LORD HOWE AT HIS REQUEST ON SEPTEMBER / 11, 1776, IN AN UNSUCCESSFUL EFFORT TO HALT / THE AMERICAN REVOLUTION. / PLAQUE ERECTED 1958 BY / THE NEW YORK COMMUNITY TRUST /
