On Saturday, Parks & Recreation Commissioner Adrian Benepe, Olympic Regional Development Authority’s Brad Clark and Red Bull sponsored pro snowboarder Pat Moore welcomed thousands of New Yorkers to Central Park for snow activities from snowshoeing to snowboarding at Winter Jam NYC.

“Thanks to our partners at the Olympic Regional Development Authority (ORDA) and I Love NY, people of all ages could try snowshoeing, cross-country skiing, snowboarding and skiing right in the heart of Manhattan,” said Commissioner Benepe. “From the Winter Market with goods from local producers to the world premiere of Red Bull’s Project X documentary on Olympic snowboarder Shaun White, Winter Jam NYC provides snow much fun in Central Park. This event brought New Yorkers together for a day of winter sports and spirit in snowy Central Park.”

Parks presented the biggest snow festival in the city: Winter Jam NYC! The event brought winter fun back to Central Park with the Lake Placid snowfield for snowshoeing and cross-country skiing. Our partners at Olympic Regional Development Authority made snow for a week leading up to the event to create a winter wonderland.

More than 100 New Yorkers brought along their snowboards for the Switch Academy Rail Jam competition, which was hosted by Red Bull-endorsed snowboarder Pat Moore. The high flying Skyriders showed off their acrobatic trampoline tricks to the crowd, while participants learned how to ski with Head Skis and snowboarded with the Chill Foundation.

Winter Jam also featured the world premiere of Red Bull’s Project X, Shaun White’s Olympic training documentary. New Yorkers of all ages built snowmen and forts on the snowfield while others honed their hockey skills with the New York Rangers Road Tour, featuring the Inflatable Slap Shot Booth and a children’s Bounce House.

The Pride of New York Winter Market warmed up the crowd with refreshments provided by local producers, while visitors browsed booths from their favorite winter sports vendors.

The event was presented by NYC Parks & Recreation, ORDA, Lake Placid, New York Post, Mountain Creek Ski Resort, Switch Academy, Gore Mountain, Gear to Go Outfitters, New York Rangers, I Ski NY, 101.9 WQXR, Pride of New York, Red Bull’s Project X, and Iloveny.com.
