The second annual Scarecrow Design Competition celebrates the spirit of the fall harvest season and creative expression! On Saturday, October 24, the Parks Department will display up to 200 scarecrows constructed by groups of all ages at Bethesda Fountain in Central Park during its annual Pumpkin Festival.

Four categories will differentiate groups by age: elementary schools, middle schools, high schools, and adults. A panel of celebrity judges will award 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place prizes in each category and the winning scarecrows will be displayed after the event in the Arsenal gallery, which houses the Parks Department headquarters in Central Park.

If you wish to submit a scarecrow entry, you must register online at www.nyc.gov/parks by Friday, October 16, 2009. Due to space limitations, only the first 50 registered entries will be accepted in each of the four categories. Registration will close once the division has reached its 50-entry capacity. One entry per category per person, group, organization or business. Entries in multiple categories are permitted.

Scarecrows must be dropped off between Tuesday, October 20, 2009 and Friday, October 23, 2009, between 9:00 a.m. and 5:00 p.m. at one of five locations below. The scarecrows will be on display from 12:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. on Saturday, October 24, 2009.
