Twilight At Wollman Rink

Today, Parks Commissioner Adrian Benepe, WNYC Radio Host Jonathan Schwartz, Donald J. Trump and Laura Walker, WNYC President and CEO, debuted a new twilight soundtrack at Wollman Rink in Central Park.

“Against the backdrop of the historic Wollman Rink in Central Park, skaters can now enjoy quintessential New York City music,” said Commissioner Benepe. “Jonathan Schwartz’ selections will delight visitors and make twilight in Central Park even more enchanting.”

Beginning tonight, Wollman Rink will feature an exclusive soundtrack programmed by WNYC’s American Standards host Jonathan Schwartz during the twilight hours, from 5:00 – 7:00 p.m., Wednesday through Sunday. Skaters will enjoy the music Schwartz is known for, including the melodies of Frank Sinatra, Tony Bennett, Ella Fitzgerald, Rosemary Clooney, and John Pizzarelli, among many others. Skaters will be able to enjoy this romantic New York soundtrack for the duration of the skating season, through April 5.

“The music on this soundtrack - Sinatra, Ella, Billy Holiday -- are the sounds I've cherished all my life,” said Jonathan Schwartz. “It is a pleasure to be able to share this music with New Yorkers in as glorious a setting as Central Park's Wollman Rink.”

Jonathan Schwartz has been hosting WNYC’s Saturday Show and Sunday Shows with Jonathan Schwartz since 1999, and has been a presence on the New York airwaves for over 40 years. His programs are an eclectic mix of American Popular Standards, classical, rock and roll, jazz and “good talk.” He has been the artistic director of Lincoln Center's American Songbook series, the music correspondent on NBC’s Sunday Today Show, and wrote an acclaimed memoir, All in Good Time. Every weekend, he brings his unique take on the cultural life of the city, both as an observer and participant - tune in every Saturday and Sunday from noon – 4:00 p.m. on WNYC 93.9 FM.
