PARKS SINKS ITS TEETH INTO HALLOWEEN
PARKS SINKS ITS TEETH INTO HALLOWEEN
Dressed as Dracula Commissioner Henry J. (StarQuest) Stern presided over the carving of an 885 pound pumpkin yesterday to announce Parks' 6th annual Newmark Real Estate Great Halloween Party in Central Park taking place this Saturday from 11:00 A.M. to 3:00 P.M. At Bethesda Fountain kids will find the city's largest pumpkin patch with 7,500 pumpkins. We expect more than 50,000 pumpkin pickers, theatre-goers, costume makers, rollerbladers, magic lovers, arts and crafts afficianados of all shapes and sizes to attend. Central Park will be transformed into a spooky wonderland of activity where the young at heart can hop aboard hay rides, and the partygoers can enjoy the foliage and the bustle.
At the Nutella Costume Making site kids will transform themselves into pumpkins, princesses, flappers, ninjas, tigers, or leopards. A Professional Pumpkin Picasso will be on hand to help with carving, making fantastical designs-cubist or otherwise-in the seedy gourds. The stage at the bandshell will be occupied by a series of performers, including a magician and the astounding music-and-puppetry group Big Nazo. The BIG Kmart Haunted House will haunt even those with steel nerves. And if that doesn't make crowds howl, the Dress your pet for Howl-O-Ween Contest will.

PARKS PREPARES FOR 18TH NEW YORK CITY MARATHON
When the first runners of the 18th annual New York City Marathon cross the finish line in Central Park at about 1 P.M. on Sunday, they will have been assisted along the way by hundreds of Parks employees who helped make the race possible.
"The city spends over $600,000 to make America's premier running event a reality," said Commissioner Stern. "And Parks the lead city agency in marathon planning is an essential part of the team effort that goes into the race."
