Cedar Playground, also known as Cedar Park, is part of the origin story of hip hop. August 11, 1973 is dubbed the birthdate of hip hop, when at a Bronx party—Cindy Campbell’s Back to School Jam at 1520 Sedgwick Avenue—the art of hip hop was born. That day, the party became so crowded that Cindy and her brother DJ Kool Herc had to move the party next door to Cedar Playground. Today, both 1520 Sedgwick Avenue and Cedar Park are considered the birthplace of hip hop.

The playground itself is named for Cedar Avenue, which is adjacent to the site. The playground includes a play area, basketball courts, a spray shower, and adult exercise equipment.
