NYC PARKS BREAKS GROUND ON THE BROOKVILLE PARK ENTRANCE RECONSTRUCTION PROJECT

NYC Parks Queens Borough Commissioner Michael Dockett today joined New York City Council Member Donovan Richards, Queens Community Board 13 District Manager Mark McMillan, and members of the community to break ground on the reconstruction of the 147th Avenue Entrance to Brookville Park in Rosedale.

“Today we broke ground on what will soon be a great passive recreational space for this neighborhood and for those looking for a place to relax and connect with others,” said Queens Parks Commissioner Dockett. “As the heart of Rosedale, Brookville Park is deserving of a new entrance that welcomes and engages members of this community.”

“The entrance to Brookville Park has been in need of a makeover for a long time, which is why it was so important to our office to provide the necessary funding for these improvements,” said Council Member Donovan Richards. “The bocce courts that have been ignored for years will be demolished to make way for a seating area for our residents to relax and take in the beauty of Brookville Park. I’d like to thank Queens Parks Commissioner Michael Dockett and the community leaders who helped shape this project.”

The project will reconstruct the 147th Avenue entrance and convert the bocce court into a user-friendly social seating area. New accessible game tables, decorative pavement, landscaping and lighting will also be added to the passive recreation space. The goal of this project is to create a more open, accessible entrance to Brookville Park.

Renovations to the entrance were made possible by the funding of $2.1 million from the City Council. The project is expected to be complete in summer 2020.

Brookville Park encompasses 90 acres and is bounded by South Conduit Avenue, 147th Avenue, 232nd Street and Brookville Blvd. Home to Conselyea’s Pond, Brookville Park offers everything from sports fields to biking paths. Recent capital improvements to the park include an expanded picnic area, newly resurfaced tennis courts, and an enhanced passive recreation space to accommodate additional visitors.
