NYC Parks Bronx Borough Commissioner Iris Rodriguez-Rosa today joined New York City Council Member Ritchie J. Torres, members of the Bronx Park East Community Association, representatives from Community Board 11, and members of the Bronxdale community to cut the ribbon on a brand new adult fitness area in Bronx Park.

“I am proud to unveil this new outdoor adult recreation area for the community,” said Borough Commissioner Iris Rodriguez-Rosa. “We always encourage healthy lifestyle choices, and now these fitness units will provide our park patrons with easily accessible new options to work out.”

“The new Bronx Park adult fitness area brings quality fitness equipment directly to Bronx residents, so that exercise can be made part of an everyday routine to maintain a healthy lifestyle. I’m proud to have allocated $200,000 through the Participatory Budget cycle to ensure community members have access to new equipment,” said Councilman Ritchie Torres.

“A healthy community is one that thrives,” said Assemblywoman Nathalia Fernandez. “I am happy that NYC Parks added brand new fitness equipment to the Bronx Park. The community is always looking for additions to their local parks, and this is a great space to exercise and stay healthy without adding any extra costs.”

The brand new adult fitness area includes a double chest press, sit-up bench, overhead ladder, and cross trainer. New plantings, benches, and safety surfacing have also been added to the site. The individual units were selected based on function to meet the target areas of cardio and muscle fitness, while targeting core and upper body strength.

The $292,000 project was funded by a $92,000 allocation from Mayor Bill de Blasio, and $200,000 from Council Member Ritchie J. Torres.

While the park is perhaps best known as the home of the Bronx Zoo and New York Botanical Garden, Bronx Park also has many recreation areas. Park visitors can take advantage of numerous playgrounds, bicycle paths, baseball diamonds, tennis and basketball courts and football and soccer fields. From zoos to playgrounds to historical landmarks, Bronx Park is an area for all to enjoy.
