NYC Parks Commissioner Mitchell J. Silver, FAICP, today joined Council Member James Vacca and community members to celebrate the installation of new fitness equipment and a new basketball court at Bronx Park. Funded by the Council Member in the amount of $200,000, the new space will offer various exercise apparatus including a pushup and pull-up bar, sit-up and dip benches, and much more.
“The inclusion of fitness equipment here at Bronx Park will improve the recreational space at this site and will serve as a useful amenity for both the youth and adults of this community,” said Commissioner Silver. “I’d like to thank Council Member James Vacca for making this happen.”
“I’m thrilled that the new fitness equipment in Bronx Park East has been installed and is ready for the community to utilize,” said Council Member Vacca. “I have made the addition of fitness equipment in our parks one of my top funding priorities, as we have a public health crisis in the Bronx. Many people do not have access to gyms or exercise centers, which makes it hard for the public to get the exercise they need. These installations provide a convenient place for residents to work out and get in shape. I thank Commissioner Silver, Commissioner Rodriguez-Rosa and the Parks Department for their commitment to this project.”
While the park is perhaps best known as the home of the Bronx Zoo and New York Botanical Garden, Bronx Park also has many recreational areas including numerous playgrounds, bicycle paths, baseball diamonds, tennis and basketball courts, and football and soccer fields. Now, with the addition of an outdoor fitness space, Bronx Park is a destination for all to enjoy.
