ASSER “LOVEY”: NYC PARKS SPREADS THE LOVE WITH VALENTINE’S DAY RIBBON CUTTING AT BROOKLYN’S ASSER LEVY PARK

NYC Parks Commissioner Mitchell J. Silver, FAICP, today joined City Council Member Chaim Deutsch, Assembly Member Mathylde Frontus, and City Council Parks Committee Chair Barry Grodenchik for an official ribbon cutting ceremony at Asser Levy Park in Brooklyn. Funded with $4.75 million from Council Member Deutsch and Mayor de Bill Blasio, the renovation of this park included a complete reconstruction of the playground.

“What could be a sweeter Valentine’s Day gift than cutting the ribbon on the beautiful renovations at Asser Levy Park? The park is one of the hidden gems of Coney Island, and thanks to these improvements, it has been renewed for generations to come,” said Commissioner Silver. “With play areas for tots and older children, improved pathways and entrances, and a forthcoming adult fitness area that will begin construction later this year, Asser Levy Park is truly a park to love!”

“Today’s ribbon cutting was the culmination of years of working to improve Asser Levy Park for our community,” said Council Member Chaim Deutsch. “I’m proud to have allocated more than $5 million for improvements at Asser Levy, and over $20 million to parks throughout my district. Parks are the center of any neighborhood, where families, seniors, and schoolchildren can gather together to enjoy each other’s company. Thanks to NYC Parks, Commissioner Silver, and Brooklyn Commissioner Maher for their partnership!”

“I’m thrilled about the new playground and that it will be available to the general public just in time for spring,” said Assembly Member Frontus. “Our local families and individuals will be able to enjoy this jewel in our community thanks to the hard work of my colleague Councilman Chaim Deutsch and Mayor de Blasio who secured the necessary funds to make these updates a reality.”

“The improvements to Asser Levy Park will provide toddlers, adults, and everyone in between with a wonderful outdoor space to truly enjoy. I am pleased to be in this historic Brooklyn neighborhood to help cut the ribbon on a project that will benefit the entire community,” said Council Member Grodenchik.

Asser Levy Park’s new features include separate play areas and swing sets for 2-5 year olds and 5-12 year olds, a spray shower, adult and tot-sized tables, improved drainage and green infrastructure, pathways, and new lighting. Elsewhere in the park, a project to install adult fitness equipment, also funded by the council member, is currently in procurement with construction expected to begin later this year.
