Answer Triangle

Answer Triangle draws its name from a play on words with the street on which it is located. The park is on Aske Street, and the response if one were to “ask(e)” a question is an “answer.”

Answer Triangle is located in the Queens neighborhood of Corona. Corona lies in north central Queens and adjoins Flushing Bay and Flushing Meadow Park. In 1854, a group of speculators from the City of New York developed the area and named it West Flushing, after the town to its east. The year 1854 also marked the beginning of Long Island Rail Road service to Corona. Having planned the streets according to the railroad route, developers watched the number of new residents to the settlement increase exponentially over the following years. In 1872, the village changed its name to Corona, because its settlers considered the town the “crown” of municipalities on Long Island. During the latter half of the 20th century, Corona became home to many factories and residents. By 1898 its population had reached 2,500 and 6,200 by 1910; the introduction of rapid transit in 1917 spurred further population growth. Among its most famous residents, the great jazz musician Louis Armstrong (1901-1971) lived here from 1943 until his death.

Answer Triangle, located at the junction of Aske Street, 94th Street, and Roosevelt Avenue, has a few bushes and three young trees. It is part of the Greenstreets program, a joint project of Parks and the Department of Transportation begun in 1986 and revived in 1994. Its goal is to convert paved street properties, such as triangles and malls, into green spaces.
