Kevin F. Conroy Ballfields

This baseball field honors Kevin F. Conroy (1954 – 2001) a devoted family man and active member of this community.

A Brooklyn native, Conroy started his education in St Francis of Asisi and Nazareth High School. He attended Baruch College and graduated with a degree in accounting. After years of hard work, Conroy was appointed the Vice President of Corporate Accounting for Marsh & McLennan Companies, which had offices in the North Tower of the World Trade Center. On September 11, 2001, American Airlines Flight 11 crashed into the firm’s offices causing 295 employees, including Conroy, to lose their lives.

Conroy was well known in the area. He was a longtime member of Immaculate Heart of Mary Parish and coach of its youth program. He captivated the neighborhood with his charm and goodwill. Conroy is survived by his wife and children.

Greenwood Playground first opened to the public on December 19, 1935, as one of hundreds of Works Progress Administration-era playgrounds commissioned throughout the city, and built under the direction of Parks Commissioner Robert Moses (1888-1981).
