The entrance to the launch is directly off the Cross Island Parkway going North between the exits for Northern Boulevard and Bell Boulevard

By Mass Transit

Q13 or Q16 bus to Fort Totten

The nearby points of interest are the Habitat of the Salt Marshes, For Totten, Civil War Battery, Throggs Neck Bridge and Whitestone Bridge. A typical day paddle can take you along the shoreline of Joe Michael’s Mile near Alley Pond Creek on the border of the Salt Marshes. If you choose to venture around the peninsula from Little Neck Bay you will pass the Civil War Battery of Fort Totten into Little Bay.

No Access Areas

Currents

If you are traveling from east to west towards Fort Totten around the jetty there is a current. The current is not too strong but paddlers will be fighting a small current if traveling from Little Neck Bay to Little Bay.

Emergency Landing Points

The beaches along Joe Michael’s Mile can serve as an emergency landing point during low tide. At high tide it is too dangerous to land on the beaches therefore it cannot be used as an emergency landing during high tide. If you have traveled around the jetty toward Fort Totten Little Bay Park launch can serve as an emergency landing. The Bayside Marina docks can also serve as an emergency landing at the dock. The beach is located at the shoreline for about 2 miles. The Little Bay Park landing/launch is about 1 mile from the Bayside Marina.
