Any great tree story blends facts and fiction, and this tree is no exception. According to the nominator and family legend, a former Parks worker ventured into the woods of Prospect Park, removed a small oak sapling and transplanted it directly in front of this house in 1958. In the decades since its planting, the tree has witnessed this family grow and the neighborhood change, and with a 50-inch trunk diameter, it is now the largest tree for many blocks in all directions.
