This oak species was selected for standing the test of time in a neighborhood that has transformed so much during its lifetime. The Shumard oak grows quickly for an oak, which makes it a hardy species to grow in urban areas. This tree not only thrives in areas with poor air quality, drainage and compacted soil but it also turns a brilliant red to reddish-orange in the fall!
