Willow Oak Street Tree on Perry Ave

Borough: Bronx
Community Board: 07
Designated: 2024

Tree Details

Species: Willow oak (Quercus phellos)
Trunk Diameter 55 Inches

This willow oak at 3331 Perry Ave was nominated for its incredible size despite its narrow and congested growing conditions. The community sees this tree as a symbol of perseverance and strength because it has preserved through the challenges of growing on the streets and sidewalks of New York City. Willow oaks have leaves that look more like willow trees and are frequently planted along streets and in parks because of their fast growth and large canopy spread. The small, wispy leaves of the willow oak turn shades of yellow, orange, brown, and red in the fall.
