The $12.5 million project, funded by Mayor Bill de Blasio, was among one of over 800 capital projects intended to build a more equitable park system. As a Community Parks Initiative project, community members came together to ensure the protection and preservation of this majestic American elm on the corner of 180th Street and Mapes Ave..
