UNICEF and Comics Uniting Nations, Superheroes for Schools Piano
July 19, 2019 to August 2, 2019
Dag Hammarskjold Plaza, Manhattan
Please note: This is a past exhibit that is no longer installed in the park.
?UNICEF and Comics Uniting Nations launched the School Superhero Comic Contest, asking children and youth to submit a superhero who could keep students and schools safe as part of the #ENDviolence in Schools campaign.
To celebrate the young superheroes around the world who are raising awareness and taking action to end violence in and around schools, Sing for Hope commissioned this piano. It was produced in collaboration with Arelí Rocha and Sydney Foreman, the artists who designed and painted the piano with the artwork received from young people around the world.
Sing for Hope places artist-designed pianos throughout NYC’s parks and public spaces for anyone and everyone to play. Each summer, the pianos bring individuals and communities together in an open festival of art for all. After their time on the streets, Sing for Hope transports the instruments to NYC public schools, where they become hubs for Sing for Hope’s ongoing creative programs and enrich students’ lives for years to come.
